Quotation of the week

Choose the quotation you like most and comment on it:

A person who is respectful towards his land, civilization and language, attains greatness and he acquires all the happiness of life. His deeds should be such that makes the motherland, the culture and language proud.
Rig Veda

Ask not what your country can do for you.. ask what you can do for your country…

John F. Kennedy

Only a dumb doesn’t cheer up his motherland, when others do so. Only a deaf doesn’t stand up when playing the national anthem, when others do so…

  1. Talking about Belarus I always maintain: there is no better place in the whole world! Of course we don't live in luxurious conditions and our economy isn't the best in comparison with other countries, but it isn't the worst either. There alwaye will be somthing you'd like to change, but moving to another place won't solve your problems.
"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". The quotation of John Kennedy matches with mine. I'm strongly considered that we have to start from ourselves to change the world. We have to respect our history and built the future of our motherland.
Anywhere you will live, sometimes your homeland and places where your childhood passed will come to your mind. There always will be a desire to return, because of inner connection between the person and his homeland.

  2. I would like to comment on the second quotation.
If we are speaking about the country as a land with history and traditions, then I think we should protect it and be proud of it. If we can't respect our motherland it means that we can't respect ourselves. What should foreigners think about us and our coutry when people of this country don't
accept who they actually are. And who are we if not sons and daughters of our land?
But if we are speaking about our country as a govermental system I have another opinion.Government should exist for one purpose, and one purpose only, for the benefit of the people that they rule over. The people do not exist to help the government. I will admit that trying to conserve is a good, idea but that does not mean that the government shouldn't do anything within its power to assist citizens.

  3. 2. The end of 20th – the beginning of 21st century is unique time. It is the period of changes in social and political life of the world. The biggest part of questions, connected with the understanding of patriotism and love to the Homeland changed in radical way. And, unfortunately, there is no matter today, where are you from: all intellectual and working resources concentrate in the richest and the most prestigious places to make career.
It became a problem 10-15 years ago. Young specialists used to leave country just to make their best. If to think globally, it looked terrible from the economical point of view. Just imagine, that the government inserts money into the development of education, science and technological progress. And in one moment young educated people leave their motherland to make career. The potential of the country becomes really low.
But in my point of view, the economical and material side of the question are not the main. Leaving the motherland in the hard period of time is the some kind of betrayal . So, asking the question “what my country can do for me.. “ isn’t right. Imagine, that only you and no one else can make life better. Only you, no one else can develop the scientific, political, social sphere in your country. Try to make your best and several years later you will have the return. Moreover, asking the wrong question “what my country can do for me.. “ your descendants will get the right answer.
