Look through the quotes below, share your point of view. What do you think about tolerance?
What is tolerance?
It is the consequence of humanity. We are all formed of frailty and error; let
us pardon reciprocally each other's folly - that is the first law of nature.
Voltaire
Acceptance and
tolerance and forgiveness, those are life-altering lessons.
Jessica Lange
As all human beings
are, in my view, creatures of God's design, we must respect all other human
beings. That does not mean I have to agree with their choices or agree with
their opinions, but indeed I respect them as human beings.
Stockwell Day
I think a lot of
people have lost respect for the individual, you know, the individual, the
person who doesn't conform.
Erykah Badu
I agree with these quotes. To my mind we have to start thinking about who we are. Firstly we are humans and each of us has his own views, thoughts and ideas. We can't judge people only because their views are not similar to ours. Imagine world where everyone has only one RIGHT opinion. In my opinion it is boring and unbelievable, because there is no RIGHT opinion. So let's start to respect each other and be tolerant about things which we can't change. Remember, everything begins from you. If you give a help hand to a person, the person would give it to you.

Удалить1. This statement is full of understanding and humanity. The thought of Voltaire is really interesting from the point of moral responsibility. So, understanding your own falls and mistakes you can (you should) understand and excuse the falls of other people. The loyal and really Christian attitude to others makes the perception of tolerance easier.
ОтветитьУдалить2. An ability to forgive and to excuse, to respect and to be tolerant can change your life and the other people’s lives.
3. The thought about equality of people just as human beings isn’t new. And, in my point of view, it has it’s own strong points and really convincing arguments. But, as I have already mentioned, this situation, the situation of equality, was ruined by the historical progress and the historical injustice as well. So, the quote of Stockwell Day shows the ideal, Utopian situation, which actually doesn’t exist.
4. Nowadays the priorities are mixed in a terrible way. Moral values are frightfully transformed or just forgotten. The problem of tolerance is one of the most vital. And, actually, the problem is connected with the loss of individual perception. People of different nations and confessions interpret each other just as the part of a mass, as the representatives of some group or flow. We shouldn’t forget about the individual value of a man. Each of us is absolutely unique. Each of us is an individual. Each of us is a personality. Understanding and remembering this things should provoke the feeling of respect to every person according to his own actions and qualities in our hearts.
5. My understanding of tolerance was expressed in the 1-st and the 2-nd paragraphs. (Alexander Pimov)
According to the quotations above, people give different definitions to the word "tolerance", but all of them are strongly considered that every of us have to be tolerant and respectful. There is an unwritten law that we should respect each other just because we are human beings. Life is impossible without mutual respect.
ОтветитьУдалитьBut what does the word "tolerance" mean to people? Actually it is a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions, beliefs, and practices that differ from your own.Tolerance doesn't require any actions. What can be easier?
To my mind the most exact quote related with tolerance is the first one. Voltaire reveals the reality the way it is and that's why his words seem to be the most understandble for the majority of people. The last quote reminds us about the responsibility to respect other people's values and views.
It is vitally important to coexist with all kinds of people living in our immense world.Tolerance acknowledges the vastness of reality and many human faces of that reality. When we are tolerant we watch, listen and seek to discover how many pieces fit together to make a wonderful world we live in.
I would like to comment on this quotation "As all human beings are, in my view, creatures of God's design, we must respect all other human beings. That does not mean I have to agree with their choices or agree with their opinions, but indeed I respect them as human beings."
ОтветитьУдалитьStockwell Day.
In my opinion, it gives us the rightest definion of the word tolerance - respect. We should respect everybody and not judge them because of their race, sex orientation, religion ect. Often people say that smth is not right because it is against God. First of all everyone has his/her opinion about what is right and what is wrong. Secondly, if there are different releigions, races and so on, it means that the God made them and it can't be wrong.
Anyway, we can try to change peoples' attitude, but we will never MAKE them tolerant or intolerant. People should make this choice by themselves. I still hope that one day we will in the world where is no hatred.
I think , that the words : "respect " and "tolerance" are similar. But I prefer the word : tolerance
ОтветитьУдалитьI really dont know why . I think that respect is too loud and personal word. This statement is full of understanding and humanity. Tolerance means to tolerate or put up with differences. It means showing respect for the race, religion, age, gender, opinions, and ideologies of other people or groups. People on both sides of an issue must be tolerant of each other.
